She was born to Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa Rexha and Dukagjin Lipa. Her maternal grandmother is Bosnian. Her family tree can be tracked back to Peja, the Kosovo city of Peja. The two grandfathers of Lipa were historians. Gjin along with Rina are her twins. Her musical inspirations come from her father who was the guitarist and singer of Kosovan the rock group Oda.
